摘要:
Urban villages emerge as a distinct spatial manifestation of the "New Dual Structure" within China's rapid urbanization, situated at the interface where the rural collective land regime intersects with the imperatives of urban expansion. While serving as critical transitional spaces for migrants, these settlements embody a deepening socio-spatial divide driven by institutional ambiguity rather than mere physical informality. To operationalise the analysis of this divide, this study develops a transferable framework integrating object-based high-resolution remote sensing with spatiotemporal big data to systematically identify and profile these settlements. Using Beijing as an empirical case, the research elucidates the center-periphery patterns of informality, revealing how institutional exclusion spatially reconfigures the demographic composition, economic status, and service accessibility of rural-origin populations. The analysis highlights the unique functional role of urban villages in the urban labor market under the dual land system, distinguishing them from traditional slums. By rendering visible the socio-spatial footprint of institutional ambiguity, this study provides reproducible evidence to inform more equitable rural-urban governance, advocating for a shift from physical eradication to integrated social and physical regeneration strategies.
